# Budgets

FinancesClub admins and treasurers3 min read

A budget is a limit for one kind of cost over a span, usually a season: up to £200 a month on kit, say, or £50 a week on match officials for the first team.

## Setting one

1. Open **Finances**, then **Budgets**, and press **Set a budget**.
2. Choose what it’s for (a category of cost), how much, and whether that’s each week or each month.
3. Set the dates it runs from and until, and the team if it’s for one.

Budgets are for money going out. Income has no limit to keep to.

## Reading one

Each budget shows what’s been spent this week or month against the limit, and what’s been spent so far in total. It’s marked when it’s nearly used for the period, and when it’s over.

It also forecasts where you’ll end up by the last date, from what you’ve spent so far and the [repeating costs](/help/finances/money-in-and-out/) still to come, so you can see an overspend coming before it happens. Budgets that need a look are on the dashboard too.

Press a budget to change it or remove it.
