How your club chooses player of the match

Club HubClub admins3 min read

After every game, each of your teams can name a player of the match. Your club chooses how, for every team; a team can choose differently.

Choosing how

Go to Configure, then the Settings tab, and find Player of the match. It has its own Save player of the match button. Choose one:

  • The team’s staff choose. The manager or coach names the player of the match after the game.
  • The squad votes. Everyone in the match-day squad is asked to vote, in their Player Hub. A guardian votes for the player they look after. Nobody can vote for themselves.
  • Anyone can vote. A public page takes votes from anyone, one per phone or computer, and your website can show it.

Then choose how long a vote stays open: a day to start with, anything from 6 hours to a week.

Each team’s staff can choose differently under Configure → Settings in the Team Hub, or go back to your club’s choice. Under your club’s settings, Teams that chose differently lists each team that has, and what it chose. Press a team’s name to open its settings in the Team Hub.

Showing player of the match in public

Before anyone can vote on a public page, or you can put player of the match on your website, tick Show player of the match in public to confirm your club has permission to show your players’ names in public.

  • Youth teams’ players are shown by first name and surname initial (“Ruby F.”), on the public page and the widget. Adult teams’ players are shown in full.
  • Turning it off asks you first, then takes the public pages and widgets down straight away, and any team using an open vote goes back to its staff choosing. If your club itself is on Anyone can vote, choose another way before you untick it.

What happens in a vote

The team’s staff start each vote from the game, choosing who is nominated. When it closes, the player with the most votes is player of the match, and they get a congratulations message. A tie goes to the team’s staff to choose between the players level at the top; if nobody has after 48 hours, they’re joint players of the match. The Team Hub guide on match day has the details.
