Setting up two-step sign-in
Anyone who can see children’s details has to prove it’s them in two ways when they sign in. It takes a minute to set up, and you choose how.
Who needs it
Everyone who holds a role at a club, a team, an organisation or a governing body: administrators, secretaries, team management, team managers and developers. Each of those can see players’ details, and most players are children.
Players and guardians don’t need it, because they only ever see their own details.
The two ways to do it
- A passkey. You sign in with Face ID, a fingerprint, or your phone or computer’s PIN, the same way you unlock it. There’s nothing to type and nothing to lose. This is the quickest, and the best choice on a phone.
- An authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password. After your password, you type the six-digit code it shows. You also get ten recovery codes to keep safe, in case you lose your phone.
You can have both, and more than one passkey.
When it’s needed by
By 1 November 2026 if you already had a role then. If you’re given a role after that, such as a parent who becomes a team manager, you have 30 days from the day you got it. The banner always shows your own date.
Setting it up
- When it’s due, every LEKKIN app shows a banner: Set up two-step sign-in by ‹date›. Press Set it up. Or open Account and press Manage your account →.
- On your account page, choose one:
- under Passkeys, press Add a passkey and do what your device asks; or
- under Two-factor authentication, press Set up two-factor authentication, scan the code with your authenticator app, type the six digits it shows, and save your recovery codes.
- Use the back link to return to the app you came from. The banner goes away.
Signing in afterwards
- With a passkey, press Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in page, or enter your password and you’ll be asked for the passkey.
- With an authenticator app, enter your password, then the code.
If your passkey is on your phone and you’re signing in on a computer, your browser offers to use the phone.
If you haven’t set it up by the date
Signing in asks you to set it up first, before anything else. You can choose a passkey or an app there, and you’re signed in as soon as it’s done. If you were already signed in, you’ll be asked to sign in again.
Lost your phone?
- Authenticator app: sign in with one of your recovery codes instead of the six digits, then set the app up again on your new phone.
- Passkey: if it was synced (iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager), it’s on your new phone too. If not, use another passkey or your authenticator app, or contact us.
