Group conversations

Team HubThe club's staff start groups. Adult players and guardians can be in them3 min read

Sometimes the whole team is too many and one person too few: the kit committee, the tournament drivers, the coaches and two parents. A group is for them.

Starting a group

  1. Open Messages, on its list of conversations.
  2. Press the round + button in the bottom corner and choose New group. (Inside a conversation the button is for writing in it, so go back to the list first.)
  3. Give it a name, tick the people to add, and press Start the group. You’re in it too.

It opens straight away. Everybody in it can read and write, as in any group chat.

Who can be in a group

  • The club’s staff: its admins, secretary, team management, welfare officer, and the managers and coaches of its teams.
  • Adult players: players with no guardian recorded at the club.
  • Guardians: a player who has a guardian recorded is reached through their guardian, and is never in a group themselves.

Your club may keep some groups out, such as its youth squads, as it can for direct messages. Somebody who stops qualifying stops seeing the group at once.

Running a group

On a computer a group’s details are beside the conversation; on a phone, press Group details above it. Whoever started the group, the club’s admins and team management, and the staff of the team it was started from can:

  • rename it and change its picture;
  • add people (the same people as above) and take people out;
  • close it: nobody can read or write in it after that;
  • pin a message at the top of the group for everyone, with the pin beside it. See Pinning a message.

Anybody in a group can leave it from Group details.

Polls in a group

Whoever runs the group can ask a poll in it, such as which date suits the club social. In the group, press the button in the bottom corner and choose New poll, then add your answers; the choices are the same as a poll in the team’s messages. Everyone in the group answers for themselves. Other members can write in the group as usual, but only the people running it can ask a poll, see who answered what, send the one reminder or close it.

Things to know

  • The club’s welfare officer can read every group, as they can every team’s messages, and anyone can report a message to them.
  • Nothing can be edited or deleted once it’s posted.
  • You’re told when somebody writes, saying who and in which group, never what. Adult players and guardians see their groups in the Player Hub.
